{"id":249,"date":"2024-06-23T16:48:32","date_gmt":"2024-06-23T16:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/civilsociety-civilworld.org\/?p=249"},"modified":"2024-06-23T16:48:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-23T16:48:32","slug":"thirst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/civilsociety-civilworld.org\/?p=249","title":{"rendered":"Thirst"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Seana Sperling <\/p>\n<p>Starvation is the best word,<br \/>\nI can assign to my feelings.<br \/>\nI feel anemic.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s as if a giant proboscis,<br \/>\nHas been draining my blood.<br \/>\nI\u2019m too weak to stand. <\/p>\n<p>Then I come to you,<br \/>\nWith your two hours of freedom per week.<br \/>\nI feel guilty,<br \/>\nTaking your time.<br \/>\nI wonder, if I\u2019m in the way. <\/p>\n<p>Then other things,<br \/>\nDrop from the sky,<br \/>\nOccupying even more of your freedom.<br \/>\nI worry, that even my help,<br \/>\nBecomes a burden. <\/p>\n<p>If I am a burden,<br \/>\nPlease don\u2019t tell me. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not that I don\u2019t have,<br \/>\nEnough to do.<br \/>\nThere is plenty,<br \/>\nBut these tasks,<br \/>\nFeed me little,<br \/>\nAnd I\u2019m not sated. <\/p>\n<p>I sometimes feel,<br \/>\nI need to rescue you,<br \/>\nFrom the trappings,<br \/>\nOf your self-detention.<br \/>\nBut unwinding the bonds reveals,<br \/>\nDeeper entanglements and,<br \/>\nThere is never enough time. <\/p>\n<p>Would I take you for granted,<br \/>\nIf I had more time?<br \/>\nWould love diminish?<\/p>\n<p>Or, would it take hold,<br \/>\nLike the roots of a tree,<br \/>\nEmbracing the earth?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Seana Sperling Starvation is the best word, I can assign to my feelings.
