Just the facts.<br \/>\nPiecing together all those broken images,<br \/>\nOf broken lives and broken stories,<br \/>\nAnd I sit.<\/p>\n<p>The first news reports came in sound bytes,<br \/>\nWhile bits of flesh and bone,<br \/>\nWere splintered by bombs and assault rifles.<br \/>\nSorrow on the page, on the photo,<br \/>\nOn the black letters that filled out the stories.<br \/>\nAnd I sat and read and watched.<\/p>\n<p>Here I sit,<br \/>\nSeeing the beauty of flaming deciduous,<br \/>\nCozying up to verdant conifers.<br \/>\nRobins, woodpeckers and wrens grace the branches.<br \/>\nVigilant cats patrol the balcony,<br \/>\nWhere I sit.<\/p>\n<p>How, amid such beauty, can the human being,<br \/>\nBe, so ugly?<br \/>\nHow can destruction, war, bias, prejudice,<br \/>\nBe such a large part of our lexicon,<br \/>\nAnd even the vernacular?<br \/>\nIs it because I just sit here?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Seana Sperling Amidst the attacks, I sit.
